Seychelles Overview

Seychelles, officially named Republic of Seychelles, is located on an archipelago of 115 granite and coral islands found in the South Western Indian Ocean. It has a land area of 455 sq. km. And the Seychelles Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) is of more than 1.3 million square kilometers. Seychelles enjoys a stable weather system.

 

Seychelles is an independent country and a member of the Commonwealth and a member of the African Union. Seychelles gained its independence in 1976, having been a British colony since 1812. It has a population of 90,000, the smallest population of any African state. Official languages of Seychelles are Creole, English, and French.

 

The country has good political stability with a democratically elected Government. Seychelles has comprehensive and modern international financial services laws based on English Common Law and French Civil Law. The corporate and financial services legislation is heavily based in English law and on comparable laws in prominent offshore jurisdictions.

 

The Seychelles economy is primarily based on tourism, commercial fishing and a thriving offshore financial services industry. Encouraged by favorable tax policies, inward investment has increased significantly over recent years, especially in the financial services sector and the hotel and resort industry (including Banyan Tree, Hilton, Four Seasons, Shangri-la, etc).

 

Seychelles has major trading partners including UK, France, Italy, U.S., Spain, Japan, Netherlands, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Singapore, Taiwan, etc. Seychelles has become one of the most popular destinations for investors who plan to do offshore business.
